Manicuare, Venezuela
Local men await a "tapaíto" style boat ride.

Manicuare, Venezuela

January 2016

The standard "tapaíto" (from tapado, covered up) ride takes place inside a boat, where a wooden structure with a ceiling does protect you from being sprayed during the Gulf of Cariaco crossing from Araya to Cumaná.

However, if you want to ride proper tapaíto style, you must take a boat from Manicuare, where you will be given and instructed to hold a tarpaulin to cover yourself and other fellow passengers.
